IN
MEMORIAM
We are sad to report that Matthew Alexander, our
inspiration for Bikers 4 Babies, and a March Of Dimes
Ambassador for several years passed away on March
9, 2007 at the age of 20.   Matthew was dedicated to
our Bikers 4 Babies ride, having ridden for the past 3
years.  Matthew told us, after having participated  from
the back seat of a car for 2 years, that he had always
wanted to "ride a motorcycle".  His statement did not
go unheard.  From that point forward we began
searching for a way that Matthew could lead our ride,
and he did.  With the help of a few friends, we located
a trike with adequate armrests, body support, and leg
support sufficient for him to ride.  Starting each ride
with a big "thumbs up", Matthew has led our Bikers 4
Babies ride each year since then, including the 160
mile ride in 2004 with temperatures in the low 40's and
drizzling rain.  I can still remember the smile on his
face and the words he spoke each time we stopped
and asked if he wanted to get in the car.   "No Way" he
would say, "I'm not cold", still grinning from ear to ear.
Matthew rode the entire 160 mile ride and then led the
50 mile, Oklahoma Highway Patrol escorted parade of
about 350 bikes, trikes, classic cars and hot rods from
Tushka, Ok to Lake Texhoma in Kingston, Ok.
Matthew was an inspiration to each of us who knew
him and a wonderful example of what Bikers 4 Babies
is all about.
